AMV, my second home. (a tribute for my Geegeenazer Family -- 1a19)

The sun wasn’t yet there in his place and the moon still smiles as he watches the darkened world of Manila. It’s not yet time to wake up, so I went back to my marshmallow bed and tried to sleep again. The feeling of being nervous and the excitement blends in as if I would blow my heart out of my mouth. My eyes were shut but my mind is up, thinking of things that would probably happen for this special day of my life – my first day in college life.

I was awakened by the roaring jeepneys and the rising temperature in my room. Oh no! It’s almost 1 P.M and I have to get myself ready for the class. I won’t ever forgive myself if I will be late this day. I ran into the wash room to wash my face. I took my breakfast-lunch for 10 minutes and went back to my room to pack my bag for school. After I took my bath, I ran to my room again to get myself ready and finally walked through the wide street of Concepcion until I reached Dapitan street 30 minutes before my class.

The AMV building, located in front of the UST hospital, was at first looked like a very huge structure in the whole campus. The entrance on it is facing the main building adjacent to the unending row of fast food restaurants. Going up to the second floor with a spiral-like stairs will show you more store outlets as you go straight ahead. The third floor isn’t yet the main site for AMV students, for the floor will show you models of new cars – realizing that almost 60% of the building is a huge parking lot, 20% stores and restaurants and the rest to the second home of AMV students which is located finally on the fourth floor. The friendly and smiling MGs (Manong guards) are the first persons you will meet. You should swipe your ID in the electronic machine sensor before the guards will let you in.

Hundreds of students with some wearing their styles and some wearing uniform lessened the hallway space for other students to pass through because they are all waiting for their turn in the room they are assigned. I and my bag searched for room 403 located on the left side as I turned right after the MGs. I can’t say a word for all I know is my heart is bouncing from my feet to my head. I don’t know anyone at all and I don’t know to whom my smile will be given so I just stand back on the wall waiting for the rest of the minutes left.

Three o’clock alarmed my black analog watch. I turn it off with my sweaty hands and the students from my assigned room went out silently. Then I entered the air conditioned room and seated myself on the left corner with my heart pounding hardly. I started to smile as I looked on the face of my angelic-faced classmates.

The bell rang loudly.

The bell isn’t stopping until I heard my aunt shouted from the door: “Hoy! Alarm clock mo!”. Oh… it was just a dream, I said while stopping the clock. It’s just a repeat of my experience during my first day here in AMV and now the academic year is about to end. I came on our terrace and felt the cold breeze of the morning with the sun that starts to show up and smile at me again. The sun seemed to be my hope for every problem that I face for I always realize that God always gives me another day to live.

As I drink my cup of Milo, I start to think of my classmates; our memories and everything we passed through the year. It’s like an imprisonment with so many punishments to pay for, and it wasn’t easy for us to do it all on our own. Without every single person in the room changed the life of everyone. I’ve been with my classmates for a year, and we all aren’t sure if we’ll still be A19 next year. But before we leave the unbreakable bonding we had: food shared for everyone; rush copying of assignments from the geniuses; the unending laughters and unpayable smiles; the “geegeenazer” expression and many more, let me introduce to you once again the members of the AMV 1a19 “geegeenazer” Family.

When you entered the front door of the not-so-cold room of 407, the first person seated besides it is ANGELA Alojado, known for her two natural hazelnut eyes that match her hair and her bright white braced teeth twinkles as she smiles. Our room 407 is a wide air-conditioned room good for 45 persons and a professor. It is about 10 meters in length and width and a height of 10 feet. It contains more or less 50 chairs and a teacher’s table in front adjacent to the platform. The room has two doors with a distance about 8 meters. Looking on the walls is a plain paint of dirty white and the floor is as red as the blood. There are 3 glass windows with gray sunscreens that disable the students to look into the room. The whiteboard extends about 60 inches in height and 7 meters long.

Those memories are unforgettable and though we will not be classmates anymore, every name and impression remains in our hearts. Thank God, everyone is still psychologically healthy and we’re proud we passed through it all.
